State Sen. Kay Hagan (D) is gaining ground on Sen. Elizabeth Dole ®, a new Public Policy Polling survey out Tuesday suggests.
According to the poll, Dole led Hagan 49 percent to 40 percent, a 5-point jump by the challenger from one month ago. The survey, taken July 23-27, interviewed 823 likely general election voters and had a 3.4-point margin of error.
“Dole got a bump when she went on the air in late May, but that has largely dissipated,” Public Policy Polling President Dean Debnam said in a statement. “With the news in the last week that the [Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee] plans to make a considerable expenditure on Hagan’s behalf, this race could end up being closer than previously anticipated.”
