North Carolinians need effective leadership in Washington according to Kay Hagan, democratic candidate for U.S. Senate. She told WHKP News that there needs to be someone in Washington that understands what is going on in North Carolina.
Hagan said that she sees energy as being the biggest concerns, and that is compounded with a bad economy and the loss of jobs. She said that someone needs to solve these problems.
As for the issue of energy, Hagan said that she is working with other senators on a bill called the Gang of 10, which puts together a program for research, development, and incentives for companies and consumers. She said that the goal is to have 85 percent of vehicles running on nonpetroleum fuel in the next 20 years. She said the billl also repeals $17 million incentives for oil companies. She said that money will be put into renewable energy sources. She said that it will also allow oil companies to expand production on the 68 million acres of land that are currently leased, and it will also allow for off shore drilling if there is oil to be found.
