Wilmington Star-News Letter to the Editor: Senate Election

Wilmington Star-News LTE
September 16, 2008

Senator Elizabeth Dole has just visited Wilmington and all the Republicans are on board trying to get her re-elected. For the life of me, I just can’t understand why anyone would want her in Congress for another term. Her main job in the Senate seems to be raising funds for the Republican Party. Perhaps she has been successful in that respect but she hasn’t done much for North Carolina or for the ordinary citizens of these United States. She has voted with President Bush 90% of the time. She voted against adequate funding for the children’s health insurance program. Kay Hagan stepped up and pushed for state funds to make sure children got coverage. Senator Dole did vote to override the President’s bill to cut Medicare payments for the elderly and disabled but we know she only took this step because she is up for re-election. If this were not an election year, she would have voted against the veto, as did our other Senator, Richard Burr. Kay Hagan will keep fighting to extend health coverage to children and will oppose unfunded mandates by supporting increased funding for Medicaid. She will fight to lower costs by implementing electronic medical records, eliminating waste in the system, giving small businesses new options for buying insurance together and will vote to allow the government to negotiate for lower drug costs for Medicare recipients.

We need to send Elizabeth Dole back to the house, and I don’t mean to Salisbury. She doesn’t live in North Carolina. Her husband can’t even vote for her. She has fed at the public trough far too long.

Don’t be fooled by the attack ads you see on television. Kay Hagan does not represent the oil companies nor the drug companies.

I’m voting for the candidate who lives in North Carolina, for the candidate who has the interest at heart of the citizens of North Carolina.

I’m voting for Kay Hagan and I urge everyone to vote for her also.
