Friday: Hagan Talks Trade, Jobs in 8th Congressional District, Fayetteville

July 24, 2008

GREENSBORO, NC – On Friday, State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) will be traveling around North Carolina’s 8th Congressional District, including Scotland County, which has the state’s highest unemployment rate, to discuss her ideas to expand trade to benefit North Carolina first and foremost and keep jobs in the state. Kay will start the day in Anson County, meeting local residents at the Omelet Shoppe in Wadesboro, and talking to them about what role the economy has played in their financial well-being.

Kay will continue to tour the 8th Congressional District, next at the Democratic Headquarters in Richmond County, where she will highlight her record of job growth in the state Senate and discuss what she’d like to do in the U.S. Senate to ensure North Carolina workers have good jobs in their communities. Afterward, Kay will join the Rockingham Mayor Gene McLaurin on a walk through downtown Rockingham to view firsthand the effects of the current economic downturn.

Kay will then head to Laurinburg, in Scotland County, to continue her discussion of trade and employment issues with State Senator William Purcell and local residents. Sen. Purcell will take Kay on a tour of Main Street in Laurinburg and discuss with her the struggle that Scotland County has had keeping jobs in the county. Kay will head to the Daily Grind following the tour with Sen. Purcell to talk with local residents about their concerns about finding and keeping a job that will allow them to support their families.

Kay will finish the day in downtown Fayetteville where she will attend the “Fourth Friday” event with the Cumberland County Young Democrats, speaking with them about the unique challenges young people have in finding jobs of their choice in North Carolina, and her efforts in the state Senate to keep North Carolina residents here after they attend college.
