Hagan accepts teachers' endorsement in Fayetteville
GREENSBORO, NC- State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) on Saturday in Fayetteville formally accepted the North Carolina Association of Educators endorsement in her campaign for the U.S. Senate. Kay was endorsed by the group, which represents 70,0000 educators in North Carolina, last month.
Speaking about No Child Left Behind, and what needs to be done to fix the law, as Senator Chris Dodd has said, Kay echoed, “Reforms without resources are like schools without teachers – they just don’t work.” Kay continued, “The keys to making this bill work are full funding, flexibility and continuing to maintain high standards not only for students, teachers, schools and parents, but for the leadership in Washington.”
Kay also addressed why she believes the system in Washington is broken, and why she believes she can beat Elizabeth Dole.
“Elizabeth Dole is ineffective for working families in North Carolina,” Kay said. “With all of her time in Washington, she’s only more effective than seven other Senators – that’s right, she’s ranked 93rd when it comes to effectiveness in the U.S. Senate. And Elizabeth Dole votes with President Bush 92% of the time – I don’t care what party’s line you’re toeing, that’s not what’s best for North Carolina.”
“When I’m your U.S. Senator, my door will always open, and I hope you’ll come and talk to me about the problems you’re facing when Washington passes laws that, in practice, are nearly impossible to implement,” Kay said.
Following the NCAE event in Fayetteville, Kay spoke with voters in Clinton, Sanford and Asheboro on Saturday afternoon and evening. On Sunday evening, Kay heads to Charlotte to speak to the Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
