In 7 Counties This Weekend: Hagan Campaign Holds Canvass for Canned Food

July 17, 2008

GREENSBORO, NC –State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan’s (D-Guilford) campaign will hold can food canvasses across North Carolina this weekend to help bolster supplies at local food banks around the state. Many food banks have felt the impact of record food and gas prices and are having trouble collecting enough donations during the summer months. Hagan supporters are doing their part to help by holding “Canvass for Canned Food” drives in seven counties across the state, and Kay’s campaign staff has been holding their own food drive at campaign headquarters. Supporters will be knocking on doors and collecting food in Wake, Durham, Pitt, Guilford, New Hanover, Johnston and Buncombe counties.

“Record gas prices have forced families to dig deep and struggle to make ends meet,” said Kay. “Unfortunately, that kind of burden trickles down to food pantries and other charitable organizations. My campaign is active and involved in the community, and we’ll be doing our part to help those less fortunate in North Carolina.”

Kay will be at the Triad Apartment Association’s food drive next Tuesday, July 22, at 6:30 p.m to deliver some of the weekend’s collections. The event will be at the Greensboro Airport Embassy Suites and will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. This is the first of several community service activities Kay’s campaign is planning to do over the next few months. For more information visit: www.kayhagan.com/action/canvassforcans.
