Hagan Lauds Jobs Development Investment Grant (JDIG) Program
August 5, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) has been a strong supporter of the state’s Job Development Investment Grant Program (JDIG), which helps stimulate economic activity and create new jobs for North Carolinians. Kay lauded Time Warner’s participation in this program, which Kay helped to create, and as budget co-chair, she allocated funding to continue these efforts.
“This is exactly the kind of innovative program we need to be using to stimulate our economy all across the state,” Kay said. “There is accountability in this program which ensures that taxpayer dollars are being spent wisely and in a way which helps create jobs here in North Carolina as opposed to overseas.”
As part of JDIG, Time Warner Entertainment Company announced yesterday plans to expand its Charlotte operation over the next four years. Investing more that $3 million, the goal is to add 200 additional jobs at the site. The grant will allocate as much as $3.18 million if Time Warner meets and sustains its new employment goals at the Charlotte site.
A similar grant was awarded to Time Warner in 2004 and the company exceeded its goals by creating more than 400 jobs and investing more than $31 million.
“At a time when it’s harder to find and keep a good job, we need to be exploring all of our options and thinking outside of the box to help stabilize and grow our workforce,” Kay said. “I’m proud that JDIG has helped stimulate our economy while keeping a premium on accountability. This is exactly the kind of thinking we need on the federal level to help partner with the states to keep jobs from going overseas.”
