Hagan on D-Day: A Special Debt of Gratitude is Owed
Greensboro, NC- On June 6, 2008, the 64th anniversary of D-Day, Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) released the following statement commemorating the service of those men and women who served in WWII, particularly during the Battle of Normandy, and those who lost their lives in the process.
“64 years ago today, thousands of Allied troops landed on the coast of Normandy to begin the march through Europe into Nazi Germany to defeat Adolf Hitler and the values he espoused. The cost was high – there were more than 9,000 Allied casualties that day – but more than 100,000 began the march across Europe. A special debt of gratitude is owed to those veterans who served in WWII, and those who lost their lives, while protecting the freedom and lives of others. For their service and ultimate defeat of Hitler, we owe our country’s moral authority which we must strive to protect and build today.”###
