Hagan Receives Endorsement of Key African American Group
October 2, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) this week received a key endorsement in her campaign against incumbent Elizabeth Dole. The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg endorsed Kay after meeting with candidates for office on Sunday, September 21.
“The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg endorses Kay Hagan,” said the organization’s president, Dwayne Collins. “She will best represent the interests of all citizens of North Carolina, including the African-American community.”
“This endorsement is a key one, and I’m honored to accept it,” said Kay. “The Black Political Caucus recognizes that I am the only candidate in the race for U.S. Senate who will show up and advocate on behalf of the best interests of working families in North Carolina, and not the special interests and their lobbyists in Washington. With the Caucus’ help, I know we will be successful in Mecklenburg County and statewide.”
The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte-Mecklenburg has been in existence for more than 40 years. Now through the November elections, they will send endorsement packets to African-American households in Mecklenburg County, distribute flyers at popular social gatherings, and, starting October 16, have volunteers at early voting locations to distribute literature to potential voters.
