Hagan Welcomes Sales Tax Holiday Weekend for North Carolina Families

August 1, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Families in North Carolina will be able to take advantage of a sales tax holiday, which state Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) voted for when the issue came before the General Assembly in 2001. Beginning tomorrow through Sunday, August 3, families in North Carolina can save money when the state temporarily suspends the sales tax on items under certain prices, including clothing, school supplies, computers and sports equipment.

“With sky high gas prices and school starting up again soon, North Carolina’s families need all the help they can get,” Kay said. “The sales tax holiday will allow them to stock up on school supplies, clothes and other items for noticeably less cost than normal. I was a strong supporter of the sales tax holiday when we considered the measure in the state Senate in 2001, and I’m pleased that families in North Carolina can take advantage of it here at home instead of travelling elsewhere to do so.”
