Hagan's News Ad: "Level" The Playing Field for Middle Class Families

August 19, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) today highlighted her commitment to helping middle class families in North Carolina who have been left behind with her second television commercial of the general election. “Level” emphasizes Kay’s belief that the special interests in Washington have taken precedence over the best interests of hardworking North Carolinians. “Level” began airing late Monday evening in several markets across the state, in addition to “Voices,” which was released last week.

“It’s clear that North Carolina is being left behind while people like Elizabeth Dole choose politics over people, to the detriment of working families across the state,” said Hagan Campaign Communications Director Colleen Flanagan. “How are families here supposed to get ahead when they are consistently ignored or cast aside altogether in favor of the Washington special interests and their bottom lines? Dole has voted with President Bush 92% of the time, and it’s clear he’s done nothing to help working families throughout his tenure, so we shouldn’t be surprised that Dole hasn’t either. But it’s time North Carolina has a voice that speaks for them, not against them, and someone who works to help them, not hinder them.”

In “Level” Kay touches on issues that have impacted North Carolinians the hardest, including gas prices that have increased 250% under Dole’s tenure while Big Oil and Gas reap record profits, and job displacement as a result of poor Bush-Dole backed trade deals. Kay has talked to working families all over North Carolina about these matters, and she has released comprehensive, forward thinking plans to curb rising energy costs, ensure trade works for North Carolina, and reinvest in rural North Carolina.

The script of the ad is below, and it can be viewed at www.kayhagan.com or on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7C9ut6NqIE.

Kay Hagan: “We need to level the playing field for families around here.

Washington’s stopped working because the special interests just have too much power.

Oil companies getting tax breaks while we get record gas prices.

Local jobs shipped overseas, And the big corporations and CEOs keep getting rewarded while North Carolina gets left behind.

I’m Kay Hagan, and no one can promise they’ll change things over night…

But I approve this message with a pledge to begin leveling the playing field because it’s time we got started.”
