Kay Continues To Talk about Her Plans To Reinvest in Rural North Carolina; Tours Wind Farm, Speaks at Small Farms Initiative

August 4, 2008

GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) will continue her Best Interests, Not The Special Interests tour this week, specifically focusing on her plans to reinvest in rural North Carolina. Kay will tour the North Carolina Small Wind Initiative site, which is a partner with Appalachian State University, to learn more about how North Carolina is on the cutting edge of alternative energy development and what more needs to be done to foster such development on the federal level. On Thursday, Kay will be at North Carolina A &T University in Greensboro to discuss small farms initiatives and farm biodiesel production.

In addition, Kay will be in Taylorsville on Tuesday to tour the Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams furniture factory. Once central to North Carolina’s economy, the furniture industry has relocated much of its manufacturing overseas, leaving distressed communities and displaced workers. Kay will meet with some of the factory’s 750 employees and discuss her plans for keeping good jobs in North Carolina.

Also on Thursday, Kay will be in Greensboro to speak at the Service Learning Impacting Citizenship Camp for Guilford County high school students to learn about government, communications, and community service.
