Kay Receives Endorsement of Key Ocean Protection Group
October 28, 2008
GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) received the official endorsement of Ocean Champions, a non-partisan group that supports candidates who are willing to make ocean protection a priority on their legislative agendas in order to create a political environment where ocean protection is a priority of government.
In his group’s endorsement, President Dr. David Wilmot said to Kay “we have every confidence that you will be a leader who will respond to this challenge, and that you will be a champion for the oceans in the U.S. Senate. Given the important of healthy oceans to the economy and lifestyle of North Carolina, we know we can count on you to stand up for strong laws that will protect these resources.”
“I’m proud to be endorsed by Ocean Champions and look forward to working with them in the Senate,” said Kay. “North Carolina’s coast is both a treasured possession and an economic boon, and it’s of the utmost importance to me that we protect and preserve it for generations to come. I also believe we need to encourage water conservation and invest in environmentally responsible hydropower, as well as promote research into renewable resources such as wave and tidal energy which could help us reduce our dependence on foreign oil and help prevent further global warming.”
