Kay's New Ad Shows the Consequences of Dole's Votes To Ship Jobs Overseas
Dole’s Special Interest friends have profited at the expense of North Carolina workers

GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) released a new ad that illustrates how Elizabeth Dole’s special interest politics have cost North Carolina good-paying jobs and hurt the state’s hardworking families. The ad highlights Kay’s commitment to stimulating job growth and making North Carolina one of the best states in which to do business.
“Kay is going to Washington to make sure North Carolina’s working families have an advocate there who will listen to them,” said Hagan Campaign Communications Director Colleen Flanagan. “For too long, politicians like Elizabeth Dole have allowed the special interests to take precedence over the best interests of hardworking families in North Carolina and around the country. With our economy in the shape it is now, North Carolina simply can’t afford to lose any more jobs because of corporate greed and special interest politics. Kay will work every day to make life better for North Carolina’s families.”
Elizabeth Dole has voted with Bush’s failed policies 92% of the time, including his free trade agenda. She voted in favor of keeping tax breaks for companies that ship American jobs overseas. Dole’s support for CAFTA and opening trade with China have cost North Carolina thousands of jobs. But despite putting so many individuals out of work, she also voted against funding for workforce training under the Workforce Investment Act three times and against extending unemployment benefits seven times.
As a state senator, Kay built a strong record of protecting North Carolina jobs from outsourcing while making sure her budgets included investments in job training, creation and economic stimulation for the state. In July, Kay released her plan to stimulate job growth and make trade work for North Carolina as a U.S. senator. That plan was based on Kay’s beliefs that America’s trade policy needs to be fair and accountable to the American people and that in order to make trade work for America and North Carolina, businesses and institutions must stay competitive to be successful. Kay supports ending tax breaks for corporations that ship jobs overseas and would make sure that any trade policy had enforceable labor and environmental standards.
