North Carolina Democratic Congressional Delegation Endorses Kay Hagan

GREENSBORO, N.C. – North Carolina’s Democratic Congressional delegation, a group of seven effective and hardworking representatives, today endorsed Kay Hagan’s campaign for the U.S. Senate. Kay, who believes that North Carolina needs new representation in the U.S. Senate, which will advocate on behalf of the state and its best interests rather than rubberstamping the failed policies of the Bush Administration, was pleased to have the support of these legislators.

“I’m so honored to receive these endorsements,” Kay said. “North Carolina’s House members know all too well that Elizabeth Dole has not served the best interests of our state during the last six years. She voted against the federal minimum wage increase, against children’s healthcare, against our veterans and we all know we can do better. I’m looking forward to working with them in my campaign and of course, when I am up in Washington working in the U.S. Senate.”

“Kay Hagan has a decade-long record of effectiveness in the North Carolina State Senate, and has earned the distinction of being one of the Senate’s top 10 most effective lawmakers for three consecutive terms. She’s a work horse, not a show horse. Her commitment to getting things done for North Carolinians is exactly what North Carolina needs in the U.S. Senate: an effective, pragmatic leader committed to getting things done for North Carolinians,” said Congressman David Price (D-4).

“For years Kay has been a tireless advocate for her constituents in Greensboro. We need that kind of advocacy for our state in the United States Senate. I look forward to working with her in Washington on the important issues facing our country today: high gas prices, a new energy policy, the war in Iraq, health care and educating our young people” said Rep. Mel Watt (D-12).

“Kay Hagan is committed to a better and brighter North Carolina, and she will fight for increased access to health care, an improved educational system and a more robust economy, which will lead to better opportunities for all citizens,” said Rep. Mike McIntyre (D-7).

“Kay Hagan will be an effective voice in the U.S. Senate for North Carolina’s teachers and students. As a state senator, Kay worked to increase teacher pay and reduce classroom sizes. This is the leadership that North Carolina needs in the U.S. Senate,” said Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-2).

“I worked closely with Kay Hagan for four years in the state Senate, and my congressional district and her state Senate district overlap in Greensboro, so I’ve kept working with her. Kay will never forget that she represents North Carolina in the United States Senate,” said Rep. Brad Miller (D-13).

“Throughout the course of this campaign, I have had the opportunity to get to know more about Kay and watch her in action. She’s been in my district, going to churches with me and talking to voters who are concerned about their future and that of their children. What’s clear to me is that she is the real deal: She’s bright, she listens and she is ready to go head-to-head with Elizabeth Dole to fight for working families and people all across this state,” said Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-1).

“In the state Senate, Kay Hagan has been a leader for the creation of clean, sustainable energy sources, and I know that she will continue working to make our nation energy independent in the U.S. Senate,” said Rep. Heath Shuler (D-11).

Recent polling shows Kay beating Elizabeth Dole or within the margin of error to beat her. Both the Washington Post and Real Clear Politics have ranked this race as one of the Top 10 Senate races in 2008.
