Saturday: Hagan Kicks Off "Kay's Carolina Family Reunion" in Asheboro

GREENSBORO, NC – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) will kick off her first “Kay’s Carolina Family Reunion” in Asheboro on Saturday afternoon at Bicentennial Park. Kay’s Carolina Family Reunions will be held across the state on weekends over the summer months as a way to thank Democrats and others for their support of Kay during the primary, and to help get voters energized to continue the campaign against Elizabeth Dole this fall.

“The weather’s warmer, the days are longer, and everybody loves a picnic,” said Colleen Flanagan, communications director for Kay’s campaign. “Kay has a wonderful family – her husband, Chip, and her children Jeanette, Tilden and Carrie. Their support and commitment have been priceless throughout the campaign and they’re always up for doing anything we need. But it’s not just Kay’s immediate family – it’s her extended family – local Democrats who have volunteered their own time – who have helped her campaign as well. They’ve helped her through the primary and are phonebanking, canvassing and spreading the word now about her campaign and record of results. This is a way for Kay and her family to thank local Democrats and their families for all they’ve done and continue to do to help her beat Elizabeth Dole and fix what’s broken in Washington. There’s a lot to do before November to win this race, but with a family like this, it’s going to be hard for Elizabeth Dole to compete.”

Currently there are Family Reunions scheduled in Asheboro, Hickory, Jacksonville and Fayetteville. There will be more planned throughout the summer.

Prior to the Family Reunion on Saturday afternoon, Kay will deliver the commencement address to Guilford Technical Community College graduates, and following the Family Reunion, Kay will visit with residents at the Emorywood Estates in Durham.
