GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) issued the following statement after touring areas damaged by last night’s F-2 tornado in Guilford County today with Greensboro City Manager Mitchell Johnson and Special Operations Commanding Officer Robert Flynt of the Greensboro Police Department:
“My thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the individual who was killed in last night’s storm and to those whose homes and businesses were damaged.
Tragedies like these really show what kind of people we have here in North Carolina. People are out there working and helping one another. Policemen have been up all night and the power crews are working quickly to get electricity restored. Disaster trucks are cleaning up. Families, friends and neighbors are clearing trees and cutting wood from damaged homes. There is a lot of damage, but the cleanup is being handled efficiently.
The good news is that this tornado did not touch down in a dense residential neighborhood or otherwise we could have seen much more devastation. I will work with Governor Easley and Mitchell Johnson and make sure the cleanup and rebuilding continues and people get what they need.”
