State Senator Kay Hagan on 64th Anniversary of the GI Bill: Opened a Window of Opportunity for Countless Veterans
“Sixty-four years ago today, our government passed the Montgomery G.I. Bill into law and opened a window of opportunity for countless veterans. At a crucial turning point in our country’s history, this landmark piece of legislation set a precedent for how America should take care of its veterans. The G.I. Bill holds a special meaning for my family, as my husband Chip, a Vietnam veteran, used it to attend law school. I am pleased Senator Webb’s measure to expand the GI Bill for the 21st Century has been included in legislation passed by Congress – I truly hope this measure is sent to and signed by President Bush to afford our brave veterans the services and programs they so rightly deserve.”
