Tuesday in Greensboro: Kay Speaks About Helping Fight Hunger, Delivers Cans from Weekend's Successful Canvass

GREENSBORO, N.C. – State Senator and U.S. Senate Candidate Kay Hagan (D-Guilford) will be speaking in Greensboro at the Triad Apartment Association’s Food Drive on Tuesday, July 22, which will benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank. Last weekend, Kay’s supporters across the state held “Canvass for Canned Food” drives in seven counties including Wake, Durham, Pitt, Guilford, New Hanover, Johnston and Buncombe counties. Volunteers gathered more than 1,000 cans to donate to their local food banks, many of which have seen a drop in donations in recent months as North Carolinians have had to struggle with rising gas and food prices.
“I am delighted that so many of my supporters took time out of their weekends to make a difference in their communities,” said Kay. “We wanted to do something that would really mean something to North Carolinians across the state, and the response to our Canned Food Canvasses has been overwhelming.”
In addition to speaking at Tuesday night’s event, Kay will also be delivering the Guilford County “Canvass for Canned Food” cans that were collected this past weekend, as well as canned food her campaign staff donated.
Women for Kay in Guilford County will also be gathering on Tuesday evening to decorate their own pairs of Ruby Red Slippers. Throughout the campaign, Kay has said she wants to give Elizabeth Dole a pair of Ruby Red Slippers so she can click her heels three times and go back to Kansas with her husband, Bob. These women are decorating slippers to highlight issues they feel Elizabeth Dole has neglected during her time in the U.S. Senate.
